Georges Niang has lavished praise on Draymond Green following his performance for the Golden State Warriors against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The pre-game hype was all around Yaxel Lendeborg and Luka Doncic’s battle, while Steph Curry’s ankle-breaker made all the headlines after the Warriors’ win.
That made many people forget how good Green was against the Lakers, but Niang is here to remind everyone of his teammate’s brilliance.
A rookie, a bench guy breaking into the rotation, or a starter ready to take a leap – you decide 👇
Green’s stats against the Los Angeles Lakers, on paper, are far from eye-catching.
The Golden State Warriors star scored just two points and recorded four rebounds, nine assists and a block during his 32 minutes on the floor.
That is perhaps why nobody is really talking about him, but Niang has explained why Green was one of the key reasons why the Warriors ended up winning the game.
He said in his press conference: “He’s the anchor of our defence, and he’s doing it within a way that’s measured in metrics that really affect the other team.
Georges Niang made the case for Draymond Green as Defensive Player of the Year after the Warriors held the Lakers to 57 points over the last three quarters last night, following a 38-point 1st quarter: "Draymond's out there guarding Luka, Walker Kessler, Austin Reaves." pic.twitter.com/SqWzjQaD2c

“Like, you talk about how many points did they score in the first quarter? Was it thirty-eight? Thirty-eight! And they were held to fifty-seven the rest of the game. And Draymond’s out there guarding Luka, Walker Kessler, Austin Reaves. Like, what else would you want?
“Name other defensive players of the year that do that. He’s that calibre. Why isn’t that being talked about? Because there has to be some metric that’s showing it, because I’m seeing it with my own two eyes.
“So, yeah, I think he’s one of the best, if not the best, defensive players that I’ve been around, considering the fact that he can do it all over the floor and guard multiple positions. Whatever his measurables are at his size, he’s playing centre, and he’s guarding the point guard. Sometimes he’ll play a little point guard for us.”
When you’re on a team with a superstar like Curry and a rising star like Lendeborg, it’s hard to make the headlines after every performance.
However, Niang’s comments show just how highly Green is rated within the Warriors’ roster, which is fantastic to see.
