LIV Golf player's exit for different tour met with huge backlash — 'Go kick rocks'
Charles Howell III has almost no history with the DP World Tour

Amid a LIV Golf demise and massive player exodus, golf analysts have shared their honest opinions regarding some players moving to the DP World Tour.

Two-time major winner Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, David Puig, Lucas Herbert and a handful of others have all announced they will look to make a DP World Tour return for 2027.

A notable reason for the non-interest in what LIV Golf 2.0 has to offer is because the DP World Tour announced that no LIV Golfer will be allowed to tee off in any of their events come 2027.

“Players need to make a choice. As we have said for many years, we have rules and regulations which are there to protect our Tour and which our members must all abide by,” Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour, said. “Players who are not willing to comply with our rules and regulations should not be seeking to join our Tour.”

Most have made their decision, including 47-year-old Charles Howell III, a player whose potential European lookahead has sparked pushback from analysts and European Tour veterans.

Throughout his career, Howell has almost no history on the European circuit, having competed in only a single DP World Tour event outside of major championships and WGC tournaments prior to entering this year's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He joined LIV Golf in July 2022.

“I found it to be utterly insane that the DP World Tour would entertain Charles Howell III as a draw,” journalist Kevin Van Valkenburg noted on a recent episode of The Fried Egg Podcast.

He’s not the only one to think that the DP World Tour is letting some LIV Golfers off easy. Joost Luiten argued that players who left for LIV proved they “didn’t give a s—” about the DP World Tour and they shouldn’t be welcomed back with open arms.

Luiten added that these players pursued the financial payout, and now that those funds may be disappearing, they anticipate returning without facing any repercussions.

The PGA Tour has also announced that their Returning Member Program will not re-open for Rahm, Cameron Smith, or Bryson DeChambeau, and Van Valkenburg pointed out that players like Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have a pass because their DP World Tour fines are paid and their thankfulness toward the circuit has been expressed.

Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter also benefit from a degree of leniency, owing to their decades of commitment and support to the circuit prior to their departures for LIV Golf.

Van Valkenburg summarized the situation for players hoping for the easy way out, as they just “need to go kick rocks.”
