After a subdued summer, Napoli are gearing up for a more eventful January window and have earmarked several youngsters to address their needs. They are following multiple midfielders, as they aren’t very deep and have a few question marks there.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Azzurri have joined Inter and Juventus in the race for Alessandro Romano, but it’ll be difficult to convince Cagliari to sell him during the winter. They are also after Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall, who’s not been a regular under Roberto De Zerbi, and Tomas Aranda. The Boca Juniors starlet can man multiple roles and has tallied one goal and three assists in 32 first-team outings. Moreover, they are keen on Darryl Bakola, like the Bianconeri and Roma. However, his price tag is growing very rapidly.
Napoli will also need to sort out a few exits. Lorenzo Lucca’s departure would intensify their efforts to acquire Gustavo Varela from Monza. Noa Lang has had decent performances filling in for Alisson Santos. However, management will evaluate possible offers from Ajax and PSV. The same goes for David Neres, who’s been injury-prone.
If the Azzurri sold a winger, they’d go for Mohamed Ali Zoma, who was recently called up by Roberto Mancini. They have also been offered Cruzeiro’s young goalie Otavio.
Their list of priorities and potential targets would be long if they determined that the squad needed to be fortified to qualify for the UCL. It was a gross miscalculation if they thought they could stroll to a top-four finish. The order has to come from above, though, as Aurelio De Laurentiis clearly tightened the purse strings last summer.
