On Saturday afternoon, Roman Reigns did not have his World Heavyweight title on the line. Instead, he faced off with former Bloodline “brother” Sami Zayn in a champion vs. champion match for the 2026 Crown Jewel title.
Just like their match in Montreal two years ago, the two veteran stars went to war in a very entertaining bout. And just like their last one-on-one clash, “The Tribal Chief” reigned supreme. Adding the Crown Jewel title to his jam-packed trophy case.
Now, the question is what is next for Reigns? He will likely lead the Bloodline into a Survivor Series WarGames clash with 946 next. However, let’s take a look at the potential options for his next World Heavyweight title challenger.
No matter how WarGames goes, it would not be surprising if the battle between the two factions does not end there. While reports continue to suggest Reigns will hold the title until WrestleMania 43, he needs interesting matchups until then. Facing the leader of 946, Royce Keys, in December at Wrestlepalooza or the Royal Rumble in January is very likely.
Recent reports claimed that 2027 will be Rey Mysterio’s final year as an active wrestler. It would be very interesting if one of the matchups on his retirement tour were a championship bout with Reigns. Furthermore, because of the respect Reigns has for him, it would not be a surprise if he accepted a championship matchup request from the Hall of Famer on the road to the Royal Rumble.
There has been speculation for quite some time about an eventual spear vs. spear clash between Reigns and Bron Breakker. Maybe that matchup finally takes place on the road to the Royal Rumble?
After losing the tag titles at Crown Jewel, Breakker will surely be shifted back to being a solo star. Winning a No. 1 contenders tournament or battle royale in the coming weeks would not be a surprise. It would also be interesting if falling to Reigns leads Breakker to leave The Vision behind and form a closer alliance with Paul Heyman.
Reigns needs opponents to run through on the road to WrestleMania 43. Which also means he needs people to beat, and if the loss does not hurt their standing with fans, that would be a good thing. That is why Dominik Mysterio could be a future title challenger for Reigns.
The company clearly sees upside in the young star after he beat John Cena at Survivor Series last year. Working his way into a title match and being in the same ring as Reigns would go a long way toward establishing Mysterio as a future main event player.
