Who will Eli Manning root for in Arch Manning, Texas' game vs Ole Miss?

Since Texas joined the SEC three seasons ago, the Longhorns have yet to face Mississippi.

That changes Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, when the No. 18 Longhorns host the No. 7 Rebels at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Steve Sarkisian's squad will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak after twice surrendering double-digit leads in that stretch.

Saturday's showdown will also mark the second "Manning Bowl" of the season, as Texas quarterback Arch Manning faces the alma mater of both his uncle, Eli Manning, and grandfather, Archie Manning.

The Longhorns' quarterback has faced increased scrutiny following Texas' loss to Florida. Sarkisian said "everything" on the offensive side of the ball would be evaluated, fueling speculation about a potential quarterback change. Manning has committed several costly fourth-quarter turnovers over the past two games, including a pick-6 against Oklahoma and another giveaway that set up the game-winning field goal in Texas' most recent defeat.

Despite his struggles, Manning holds a 6-2 record against ranked opponents as Texas' full-time starting quarterback. He'll look for win No. 7 on Saturday against Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels.

That said — and with family ties adding another layer to Saturday's SEC showdown — which side will Eli Manning be pulling for?

Here's what to know:

Who is Eli Manning rooting for in Ole Miss-Texas?

Appearing on the "Pardon My Take" podcast earlier this month, the former Rebels quarterback was asked who he'd be rooting for when Texas welcomes his alma mater into DKR Texas-Memorial Stadium for Saturday's top-25 matchup.

"You know what, this is the way I look at it (and) Ole Miss is going to play Texas in a few of weeks, you root for your family," Eli Manning said. "I have basically maybe two years to root for my nephew in college. So, for those two years — or maybe it’s the last year, whatever happens — I’m going to root for my nephew to win every single game that he plays in. And that’s just the way it is."

But after the 6-foot-4 quarterback's career is over in Austin, it's all back to rooting against the Longhorns.

"I won't care about it all that much. Ole Miss will be 100%. And I root for Ole Miss to win every other game probably besides a little bit that one (against Texas)," Manning continued. "But that’s just the way it is. This is a kid I’ve known since he was born. I’ve played football with him, I’ve done drills with him, I’ve taught him the game of football.

"... You root for family in these scenarios. It’s bigger than your college, it’s bigger than where you went. It’s your blood."

When did Eli Manning play at Ole Miss?

Eli Manning followed in the footsteps of his older brother (and Arch Manning's dad), Cooper, and their father, Archie, by committing to Ole Miss to play college football. Cooper Manning's career with the Rebels, of course, never took off, as he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis before he arrived in Oxford.

The longtime New York Giant played for Ole Miss from 1999 to 2003, a career that saw him become one of the all-time great Rebels quarterbacks. He set the program's all-time passing records with 10,119 yards and 81 career touchdowns, marks that stood until Jaxson Dart surpassed them in 2024.
