Chelsea offer expected for Lamine Camara as Liverpool get ready for January fight

Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on bringing AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara to the Premier League in the winter market after he came close to joining the Blues in the summer.

On deadline day, Chelsea made advances to secure his services. The Ligue 1 side initially blocked his exit to favour Folarin Balogun’s sale to Everton. However, the Toffees failed to sign the American and Monaco then opened the door for Camara.

In the end, both Balogun and the midfielder couldn’t complete the transfer. The latter has continued to shine this season, attracting interest from Liverpool and others. He has two goals and an assist from 1,139 minutes in 13 matches.

Liverpool and Chelsea keen

In September, the Senegal international said he wants to put the Chelsea disappointment behind him and left the door open for a future transfer.

He said: “If it doesn’t come back around, it will be because I gave up or didn’t work hard enough. If I keep going like this, I know I can help the team perform well. Football moves fast, and perhaps other chances will arise. But for now, I’m staying focused on the season.”

Liverpool have shown interest in the 22-year-old. Earlier this week, Sport Witness relayed news of the Merseyside club initiating contact for a January deal.

Footy-Africa now picks up on that and covers the latest about both the Anfield club and Xabi Alonso’s side.

Chelsea face Liverpool threat

Xabi Alonso has summer signings Valentín Barco and Jordan Henderson as the recognised central midfielders. Besides the Argentine and the 36-year-old, 16-year-old Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli is another option.

Therefore, it won’t be a surprise if the Blues were to sign a midfielder in January. Having missed out on Lamine Camara in the summer, the report states the expectation is for them to return with another offer.

Liverpool are also showing ‘strong interest’ in the AS Monaco star and are ‘ready to battle’ Chelsea to secure his services.

Andoni Iraola’s side didn’t sign a midfielder in the summer. This, coupled with uncertainty around Alexis Mac Allister’s future, could force them to act. Camara remains an option, and it’ll be interesting to see how this case develops.

Footy-Africa also mentions Manchester United as another option. However, there isn’t any concrete information about their intention to sign Camara as early as January.
