Shane Lowry has switched from The Bay Golf Club to join Rory McIlroy's Boston Common Golf in the first trade in the history of TGL.

In return for acquiring the newly crowned Irish Open champion at Doonbeg last month, The Bay will take Common's fourth selection as each team moves to a five-player panel for the upcoming season.

The Bay will also receive a further future selection to be used over the next three seasons, while a statement on the move says that additional commercial considerations will be made to Lowry's now former team.

Speaking on the news of his switch, Lowry said "I'm delighted to be ‌joining Boston Common Golf," said Lowry.

"Having Rory alongside me and being part of this group makes it particularly exciting, and I'm looking forward to helping the team bring a championship to Boston."

Lowry has already achieved tremendous success as a teammate of McIlroy, both as a duo and as squad members on victorious Ryder Cup team's, and the World Number 2 can't wait to tee it up alongside his long-time pal.

"We've had some special wins together, including at the Zurich Classic, and I know the quality of his game and how much he cares about winning for his team-mates," McIlroy said.

"I'm delighted to welcome him to Boston Common Golf and excited about what we can achieve together this season."

The 2019 Open Champion will also link up with former US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who was delighted to see Lowry come aboard.

"Shane is a ‌fierce competitor with a tremendous all-round game, and I'm excited to have him on our side," Bradley said.

"He brings the kind of energy that makes team golf fun, and he'll fit right ‌in with this group. We're eager to get back to SoFi Center, and adding ‌Shane gives us even more confidence as well chase a championship for Boston."

There appears to be no hard feelings on The Bay's end, with team president Eric Kwait wishing Lowry nothing but good luck for the future.

Season 3 of TGL will start on December 27th.
