Mikel Arteta has been urged to replace a 'catastrophic' Arsenal ace following his worrying display, despite a 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Ezri Konsa scored his first goal for the Gunners within seven minutes, helping the Gunners to head in at halftime a goal to the good against the Toffees. But it is arguably their guests that played the better football and deserved more from the match by full-time, boasting the better chances and perhaps feeling unlucky not to have come away with something.

Arsenal, as is often the case, struggled to hold on to their lead, never straying too far away from letting their result slip away, before Gabriel played the role of hero again to double their lead.

While their inability to 'run away' with games in the same vein as their title rivals can sometimes be down to the fact their attack is nowhere near as good as their defence, it is a player at the back that has received the majority of flak this time around.

Arsenal Star Under Criticism Despite 2-0 Win Over Everton

Mikel Arteta is blessed with a deep pool of defensive talent, but while Ben White was immune to criticism just a couple of seasons ago, he has seldom become a scapegoat whenever his side show any sign of weakness in recent times.

That was the case again on Saturday afternoon, as one Arsenal supporter wrote on X: "Is Ben White a club legend? How does he get starts for Arsenal?" as another remarked:

"Ben White is that terrible and average footballer hiding behind the grace of a good team. Trash."

A third continued: "Arsenal has to sign or new right back ASAP or trust Cristhian Mosquera for that role. Ben White and Jurrien Timber are just not it." Elsewhere, another added: Ben White, my friend... almost catstrophic."

Moreover, a fifth concluded: "This has to be Ben White’s last season in Arsenal. Man is solid (most times) but we need a level raiser, not just another body."

Ben White's Poor Performance in Numbers

White did get an assist for Gabriel's contest killer under the Emirates Stadium floodlights, and that will lead many to forgive his early mistakes that could have led to Arsenal shipping goals as a result.

But his overall performance at right back - a position that has grown in importance in recent years - is still cause for some concern, even if he is often bailed out by his teammates like David Raya.

In his 90-minute display, he failed to make a single successful tackle, made an error leading to a shot, and generally looked out of sorts when asked to defend.

Besides his assist, he also didn't make the most of his chances going forward. The England international didn't complete any of his dribble attempts, lost possession 12 times, and had a passing success rate of just 73 per cent - far below the average of his teammates.
