Warriors storm back to beat Luka Doncic, Lakers, 112-95

With the second quarter just underway, a free throw from Austin Reaves gave the Los Angeles Lakers a commanding 40-15 lead over the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at Chase Center. With Luka Doncic on fire, and the Lakers dominating to the tune of a 25-point lead, all signs pointed to the Warriors snapping their two-game win streak on Friday night.

Yet, Friday night proved, the NBA is a game or runs.

While Doncic and the Lakers dominated the first quarter, the Warriors took over in the second quarter. De'Anthony Melton tallied 13 points with three made 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Warriors outscored the Lakers 38-15 in the second frame. After a burning hot first quarter, the Lakers tallied just 15 points on 5-of-22 shooting in the second quarter, including a 0-for-9 stint from long distance.

By halftime, the Warriors erased their 25-point hole, tying the game at 53 before entering the locker room.

In the second half, the game again swung back and forth at Chase Center. Coming out of the locker room, the Lakers picked up where they left off in the first quarter, jumping to a nine point lead midway through third quarter. Yet again, the Warriors wouldn't go away.

Steph Curry began to heat up, scoring 17 points in the second half to swing momentum back into Golden State's favor.

By the time the fourth quarter started, the Warriors clung to a five point lead. While holding the lead in the fourth quarter, the Warriors didn't leave the door cracked for any chance of comeback for the Lakers, outscoring the Lakers 27-15 in the final frame on their way to stealing a 112-95 comeback win over the Lakers.

Curry tallied a team-high 31 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field with eight made 3-pointers in 31 minutes. Brandin Podziemski added 21 points, six assists and five rebounds in 37 minutes. Golden State's second unit provided a munch-needed punch on Friday, outscoring the Los Angeles bench, 50-7. Melton notched 16 points off the bench while Georges Niang dropped in 11 points.

Doncic took round two of his blossoming feud with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg. Lendeborg had his first stumble of his impressive rookie season, scoring just four points on 2-of-3 shooting from the field with just one board, zero assists and five turnovers. With under three minutes remaining Lendeborg fouled out of the game for the first time in his rookie campaign.

While Lendeborg struggled, Doncic fueled the Lakers with a game-high 37 points while adding seven boards, five assists and two blocks.

With their third straight win on Friday, the Warriors are now 3-3 on the season and will get Saturday off before welcoming the Los Angeles Clippers to Chase Center on Sunday afternoon.
