Barrow AFC boss says pressure is on Gillingham ahead of FA Cup

The Bluebirds are looking to make it ten games unbeaten in all competitions after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Eastleigh Town on Halloween.

Dan Mooney thought he had won it for Barrow after coming off the bench to score a 94th minute strike but Eastleigh’s Aaron Blair levelled the tie in the 101st minute.

Murray’s side are set to face their toughest challenge yet in this weekend’s FA Cup first round with The Town sitting 8th in League Two and vying for promotion.

Despite that, the gaffer said his side were confident and ready for the challenge.

Murray said: “We're in a good place at the minute. We're always playing with a lot of confidence, a lot of energy.

“It's obviously going to be a tougher game than we've experienced this season, playing a Football League team, fighting for promotion in League 2.

“But it's the FA Cup so anything can happen, so we're going there looking to put our mark on the game.”

Gillingham go into the game off the back of a 2-1 away win at Shrewsbury and sit just one place outside the playoff positions, level on points with Grimsby and York above them.

Murray said his side were playing with such confidence that they would just focus on their own game, rather than their underdog status going into the fixture.

“For us, when you're in the mode we're in and the confidence we're playing with, it's not really something you need to make much of because we're going there to try and win the game,” said Murray.

“We're not going there to try and hold on and see if we can nick something. We're going there full of confidence and the way we play, we have to be on the front foot.

“We're not a team that's going to sit back and try and defend nil-nil and hope we will pinch something, we'll be going there to score goals.”

“We're looking forward to it. It's a game where you've got nothing to lose and nothing to gain. The pressure is on them, so we're excited.”

The Bluebirds will be travelling down to the Priestfield Stadium for the 3pm fixture on Saturday, November 7.
