Porteous has been drafted into Sebastien Pocognoli’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against North Macedonia and Switzerland.
The centre-back has endured a difficult spell at international level since his red card in Scotland’s 5-1 defeat by Germany in the opening match of Euro 2024.
The former Easter Road favourite has made just one Scotland appearance since then, featuring in the Nations League play-off against Greece in March.
But Porteous has continued to push for an international return, and his form across the Atlantic has now earned him another opportunity.
The 27-year-old has been a regular for Los Angeles FC in MLS this season, starting 25 of their 33 league fixtures.

His Scotland return comes after Welsh suffered an injury while on club duty with Swansea City. The former Celtic and Motherwell defender’s problem is not thought to be serious, but it will keep him out of the forthcoming double-header.
Porteous had recently admitted that getting back into the Scotland squad remained a driving force following the disappointment of the Euros.
“It was always going to be difficult after the Euros,” he said.
“But after the first few months of maybe feeling sorry for myself a little bit, every training session, every gym session, every game, has always been, how can I get back into that squad?
“How can I force my way back into that squad?
“It’s always my goal. It’s always my drive to play for Scotland because it’s the pinnacle and there’s no better feeling in football.”
The latest call-up now gives the former Hibs defender the opportunity he has been craving as Scotland prepare to face North Macedonia and Switzerland.
