Angel Reese's NBA star boyfriend makes admission on WNBA finals
Angel Reese hugs Wendell Carter Jr. after a game against the Chicago Sky

Wendell Carter Jr. spent the NBA offseason working on his game like most hoopers preparing for next season, but the Orlando Magic center and Angel Reese's boyfriend also made sure to support the Dream forward's pursuit of a first championship.

The Magic big man discussed how he balanced offseason workouts with trips to Atlanta to watch Reese during her first season with the Dream. The 2024 seventh WNBA Draft pick spent her first two seasons in Chicago after the Sky drafted her.

Those summer journeys have culminated in Reese rewriting Finals history and after repeatedly manifesting her basketball wants, Reese is now hoping to bring Atlanta its first title well within sight while tied 1-1 with the Golden State Valkyries.

Reese's breakout came Monday in San Francisco, where she scored 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 79-65 win over the Valkyries in a hostile Ballhalla Chase Center. Atlanta's first Finals win tied the series and set up Wednesday's Game 3 on the Dream's home floor.

"It's been good, man," Carter told ScoopB.com. "A lot of hard work, a lot of relaxation, a lot of support for my girl. It's been a great summer all in all."

Carter said that he moved between Atlanta games, workouts in Georgia, and Orlando's AdventHealth Training Center.

The Magic center was spotted during training sessions with Los Angeles Lakers guard Collin Sexton and 12-year veteran free agent Derrick Favors.

Carter's commitment to Reese's career saw him witness her average 16.4 points and 12.1 rebounds during the regular season, win Defensive Player of the Year, and set a league single-season rebounding record with 500 boards.

After Atlanta's Game 1 defeat, Reese faced criticism for her late-game body language and admitted she hadn't attacked enough in the second half.

She bounced back in a historic Game 2 focused on dominating the paint.

Reese made 10 of 16 shots in Game 2, blocked two shots, and became just the third player to score at least 30 points and grab 15 rebounds in a Finals game. She joined Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, who also inspired the performance.

Carter is in his eighth NBA season and averaged 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds last year after also being the seventh pick (in 2018) and drafted in Chicago by the Bulls.

The Magic lost to the Detroit Pistons in the first round last year after a 3-1 lead. Carter has reached Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs with Orlando in three straight seasons and lost each time (4-3).
