See it: Giants running backs embrace, tackle John Harbaugh after Week 7 win

The New York Giants got a massive push in overtime of Sunday’s win from their running backs against one of the NFL’s best defenses against the run, the Houston Texans.

After forcing a three-and-out on the Texans’ opening possession of overtime, the Giants’ three-play, game-winning drive was capped by a 42-yard run from Cam Skattebo, followed by a 30-yard touchdown run by Devin Singletary against his former team.

The Giants’ running back trio of Skattebo, Singletary and Tyrone Tracy Jr., who all scored a touchdown in Sunday’s win, celebrated together afterward.

The clutch performance came just a week after a game in which the Giants were unable to get anything going on the ground, making it hard for the team to stay committed to the run.

In Week 6, with Cam Skattebo virtually benched following a costly fumble the previous week, the three running backs who got touches (Najee Harris, Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy) combined for just 34 yards on 14 carries. After the game, the running backs were called out by head coach John Harbaugh, who asked for someone to step up and be the lead back.

Najee Harris was released days later, and the Giants’ running back situation appeared to be in shambles, triggering rumors that the team might trade for a back ahead of the deadline, including Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor or former Giant Saquon Barkley.

Skattebo finished with a career-high 124 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Singletary had 41 yards on five carries and a touchdown, and Tyrone Tracy added 15 yards and a touchdown on six carries. All three also had at least one catch. With the trio stepping up Sunday, the Giants will likely feel a lot better about their running back situation as they head into the bye week.

Harbaugh was seen embracing Skattebo after the sophomore running back’s touchdown and even got tackled while celebrating with Devin Singletary at the end of the game.

"I got tackled on the field, yeah. I'm a little disappointed in my balance. Yeah, Devin Singletary ran me over. I was on my back, I have to admit. I got run over. I won't even say what you think I should say right now," Harbaugh said after the game.

What a difference a week makes. The Giants’ running backs all contributed following Harbaugh’s plea for someone to step up, and they protected the ball throughout the game.
