Undav – typically chatty and outgoing with the media in previous seasons – has gone into his shell since taking the captain's armband according to the tabloid.

Amid a difficult start to the season, Sport BILD have noticed a change in mood regarding VfB Stuttgart's new captain Deniz Undav.

As the tabloid notes, the captain's armband “brings many responsibilities – you have to lead the team, keep the dressing room united.”

Often times, when things go wrong, the skipper has to face the music and answer difficult questions regarding the team's performances.

According to BILD, after eleven competitive matches this season, Undav has only spoken once in the mixed zone following a match.

Of course, not always, but at least every now and then. The tabloid notes that “as captain, it's about VfB Stuttgart, not Undav.”

His predecessor, Atakan Karazor, showed how it could be done, who seemingly “consistently faced the media” in recent years.

Regardless of whether the team won or lost, regardless of whether Karazor had played well or poorly, he always spoke for the team.

BILD senses Karazor was aware of the responsibility that came with the captain's armband: “No shirking his duties.”

Undav was a different story. After the 2-3 defeat against Gladbach, the striker once again walked silently through the mixed zone.

Undav's silence is surprising, as in previous years he regularly answered questions – especially regarding his goals and strong form.
