Panthers QB Bryce Young earns dismal grade for loss to Packers

For most of Bryce Young's NFL career, the story has been that the Carolina Panthers have set him up to fail.

That was certainly true his first season, when former head coach Frank Reich reportedly changed the playbook multiple times. Young's second season saw him get benched, and he didn't really start delivering on his potential as a No. 1 overall pick until the second half of the 2025 campaign.

Early this year, Young showed flashes of MVP potential despite awful pass protection. But he has since come crashing back down to earth, and the Panthers offensive line has gone from bad to worse.

So, even though Carolina has improved his wide receiver corps and finally found a gifted offensive play-caller, Young's supporting cast is still lagging behind the league average.

This past week, Young struggled in a road loss to the Green Bay Packers, taking six sacks and throwing just one touchdown pass. For his efforts from the 27-19 defeat, Brent Sobleski at Bleacher Report has given Young a 'D' grade:

Bryce Young was under duress throughout this past week's Thursday Night Game. The Green Bay Packers defense pressured Young on 22 of his dropbacks, according to ESPN's Mike Kaye. The Packers' six sacks matched Young's six completions when pressured. Obviously, a quarterback can't thrive in that situation and Young hasn't. However, a quarterback can improve the situation to a degree, as Young did earlier this season but failed to do so as of late.

Offensive coordinator Brad Idzik did a fantastic job of scheming around the terrible offensive line early in the season. But quick hits and RPOs can only take your offense so far, as the Panthers are learning the hard way right now.

Idzik may be able to bounce back and find some new tricks to get Young back on track. However, in the long run, the organization needs to rebuild their offensive line and take responsibility for the ongoing failures to set their No. 1 pick up for success.
