West Linton Petanque Club launches with 20 players

West Linton Petanque Club held its first session on Sunday, October 11, with 18 players taking part in three triples matches.

A spokesperson for West Linton Petanque said: "What a great start.

"We’re delighted with the response and excited to add another sport to our community sports club.

"Come along, meet people and discover your new favourite game."

Petanque will now be offered at West Linton Bowling Club, with members meeting twice a week.

Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 12pm.

Mike Goldsmith, treasurer of West Linton Bowling Club, gave a demonstration before play began.

Players then split into six teams and got straight into the action.

The spokesperson added: "There was plenty of enthusiasm, friendly competition and fun.

"Players were keen to keep playing, and all have entered the West Linton Petanque Championship."

Organisers are encouraging anyone interested to take part, promising a quick lesson and the loan of boules for beginners.

The club also plans to join the Midlothian and Borders Petanque League, which features nine teams and resumes in March.

Regular team games will be played during weekly sessions, alongside singles championship matches.

Players can also arrange singles games at other times.

The championship will run through to March, with the top four players progressing to a play-off to decide the West Linton singles champion.
