Here's a hot take: Caleb Williams’ hamstring injury may have been the best thing to ever happen to him in football and for the Chicago Bears overall.
Williams missed three games because a torn hamstring, forcing him to take a step back and watch Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent operate this offense. It served as further motivation and an appreciation for being out on the field, and his production on the field has been unreal.
In the three games since Williams has returned from injury, he's thrown for 860 passing yards, the most in any three-game stretch in his NFL career and has at least one touchdown in each of those games. Williams also has completed 46-of-53 passes between the numbers, 540 yards between the numbers all while throwing zero interceptions. Furthermore, Chicago’s offense has put up at least 30 points in every game since his return.
Two of the teams the Bears put up at least 30 points against were just in the Super Bowl last year -- the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Both teams relied on their defense to get them to the Super Bowl last year. Seattle was supposed to have the best defense in the NFL this year, but Williams had no problem picking them apart and putting up points. They also only managed to sack Williams once, which is the fewest sacks Williams has taken in a game all season.
The Bears will be looking to build off this momentum in their third straight prime-time game on Sunday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay is 3-5 this season, but is coming off a 16-0 win where they ran the ball for over 300 yards and no completions.
