Mike Fisher isn’t changing his tune with the trade deadline closing in. The Dallas Cowboys insider is sticking with his prediction that Dallas will come back with an offer for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, just not at any price.
Fisher’s post landed Thursday night, at the end of a week when Crosby’s name bounced all over the airwaves. Both teams sit at 3-4, and the Nov. 10 deadline is less than two weeks away. However, the line Fisher decided to draw sits awfully close to the price tag on Crosby’s last agreed-upon trade.
A return trip would mean reopening a pursuit Dallas has reportedly already tried once. Dallas was one of the clubs that chased Crosby before Las Vegas agreed in March to send him to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round picks. The Ravens walked away from that deal, worried about the meniscus repair Crosby underwent once the 2025 season ended.
Crosby, of course, returned to Las Vegas. That same month, Dallas acquired Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Crosby, a five-time Pro Bowler with 71.5 career sacks, has two sacks and 16 quarterback hits through seven games in his eighth season with the Raiders. Las Vegas gave him a three-year, $106.5 million extension in March 2025. He has a 79.6 PFN Edge Rusher Impact Grade, which ranks 26th in the league this season.
Fisher’s post opened with a reminder, “I’ve predicted all along that the Cowboys will circle back with an offer for Crosby.” Then came the kicker: “But 2 premium picks would be an OVERPAY.”
Whether Dallas picks up the phone at all is another matter. The Cowboys already made one in-season trade, landing cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 1.
Owner Jerry Jones weighed a second one on his weekly Tuesday radio appearance, the morning after Monday’s 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
“If we could do it where we sit right now, I would add to it. But the adding to it is a big statement. It’s unlikely we’ll get the opportunity from outside coming in. But if it’s there, I’ll do it.”
Fisher has company in expecting Dallas to enquire after Crosby. Bryan Broaddus, a radio host at 105.3 The Fan, chose to put his chips on the table Thursday: “I’m going to make a bold prediction. I think they’re going to get Maxx Crosby.”
He doubled down moments later, calling a Crosby trade “definitely the key move that they’re looking for.”
Broaddus’s forecast comes with the Cowboys sitting on 10 sacks through seven games. Donovan Ezeiruaku leads the team’s edge rushers with 1.5 sacks, and Gary and rookie Malachi Lawrence have one each.
Three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth went a step further on Dallas radio Tuesday. Weighing a straight swap of wide receiver George Pickens for Crosby, he said: “Oh yeah, would I do that? I would do that in a heartbeat.”
Pickens is playing on the franchise tag and is four-plus months from free agency. He caught four passes for 57 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown, in Philadelphia. Schlereth’s knock is that “there will be plenty of times during the game and you’ll put on the film and he’s just standing around, killing grass.”
The Raiders, meanwhile, opened 3-0 under first-year coach Klint Kubiak before dropping four straight. Even so, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported earlier in the week: “The trade talks surrounding Maxx Crosby have lost a little bit of steam.”
Then there’s the player himself. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported in September that the Los Angeles Rams made their own push for Crosby once the Ravens deal collapsed, and that Crosby let the Rams and other suitors know he no longer wished to be dealt.
The Cowboys host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and visit the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8, two days before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
Dallas also has a 2027 first-round selection available, although its draft capital comes with an important condition: the Cowboys owe the Jets the more favorable of their own and Green Bay’s first-round picks following the Quinnen Williams trade.
