After a massive 27-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football in Week 8, the Washington Commanders are looking to get their season back on track. Quarterback Jayden Daniels has been back in the lineup since Week 5 after missing two games with a dislocated left elbow.
However, ahead of their next game against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Dan Quinn found himself in an awkward moment.
The incident happened during Wednesday’s presser when a reporter asked about the Commanders’ plan to deal with Rams wide receiver Davante Adams, who has been on injured reserve for more than two weeks. The exchange quickly made the rounds on social media, with fans calling out the reporter for asking a bizarre question.
Over the last eight weeks, the Commanders have struggled with severe inconsistencies and injuries to several key players. The issues have largely derailed their season, with questions mounting over Quinn’s plans to turn around a struggling defense.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Quinn was asked how the team planned to handle the Rams’ receiving corps, with one reporter specifically bringing up Adams.
“Hey coach. Davante Adams is one of those playmaking wide receivers. Four touchdowns on the year. What are some things secondary that you know that you have to lock in on a receiver of his caliber?”
Rather than pointing out the factual error, Quinn overlooked it and politely answered with a generic comment about the Rams’ overall passing attack.
Fans who noticed the exchange were quick to call out the reporter for overlooking Adams’ injury status.
“Bruh… how do these people get credentials?!?” asked one user on X.
“This is embarrassing. Did they have AI write the questions for them?” asked another frustrated fan.
“This is quite bad unfortunately,” another user wrote in response to the clip.
“2nd time she’s asked about a player on IR, Tony come get your girl,” another fan commented.
Meanwhile, one user joked about the situation, writing, “Clearly she meant Cooper Kupp. Take it easy guys.”
In reality, Adams suffered a ruptured hamstring during a non-contact play in the final minutes of the Rams’ 18-16 Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The serious soft-tissue injury required surgery to repair the hamstring tendon.
Following the procedure, the Rams officially placed Adams on injured reserve on October 20. He was given a six-to-10-week recovery window, meaning he will miss at least four games and could potentially return after the team’s Week 11 bye.
Meanwhile, the Commanders have also lost two starting defensive tackles, Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw, to injuries, significantly weakening their defense. The unit currently ranks No. 22 in PFN’s NFL Defensive Impact Score with a grade of 70.2.
Regardless, Daniels faces a major challenge this time around. The Commanders are currently 2-4-1 on the season and are placed No. 3 in the NFC East Standings.
The Commanders will face the Rams on Sunday, November 8. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
