Man Utd Player Ratings Vs Roma: One Player Gets 9/10 But Another Gets A 3
Man Utd Player Ratings Vs Roma: One Player Gets 9/10 But Another Gets A 3

Man Utd came back from the dead with a dramatic second half comeback against Roma on Tuesday night.

After an abysmal opening 45 minutes which saw Matias Soule and Donyell Malen put the visitors 2-0 up, Michael Carrick‘s men came roaring back following the interval.

Matheus Cunha was the inspiration, winning the penalty (which Bruno Fernandes dispatched at the second attempt) before a quickfire brace in the last 10 minutes sealed victory. The Brazilian had an eventful evening, as he was also sent off for two bookable offences.

Press the next next page as we give our Man Utd player ratings for the 3-2 win at Old Trafford…

Goalkeeper and Defence

Diogo Dalot

GK – Senne Lammens – 6/10 – made a very good save from Malen when United were 2-0 down. It proved to be a crucial intervention.

RB – Leny Yoro – 6/10 – like Lammens, the Frenchman made an important intervention to prevent Roma from scoring a third, making a great recovery tackle at the end of the first half.

CB – Harry Maguire – 5/10 – the 33-year-old was given too much space to cover by Carrick, but he did cause all sorts of problems at corners, and he could have scored if Wesley hadn’t blocked his header.

CB – Ayden Heaven – 4/10 – the centre-back really struggled, but he wasn’t entirely to blame. For the first Roma goal, he was completed exposed due to decision to push Diogo Dalot high up.

LB – Diogo Dalot – 3/10 – the fullback was missing in action before both Roma goals, but he was clearly instructed to play that high up. Carrick and his coaching staff have to take the can for that.

Midfield

Bruno Fernandes

CM – Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10 – misplaced way too many passes, including one before Roma’s opener. However, he did help United get to grips with things after the break.

CM – Carlos Baleba – 5/10 – it was a mixed bag from the Cameroon international. He didn’t play well in terms of his defensive contributions, but it was a different story on the ball.

Baleba set up Fernandes for a good chance in the first half, even though his captain was unhappy with the quality of the pass. He also made a fantastic dribble which could have led to a goal if he hadn’t then pulled his hamstring.

AM – Bruno Fernandes – 6/10 – the 32-year-old clearly isn’t happy with life based on how many times he moaned at his teammates. He also go lucky after missing his first penalty before he was given a retake due to encroachment. The assist for Cunha’s equaliser was also more luck than judgement as Roma’s Leonardo Balerdi should have cleared his cross.

Forwards

Bryan Mbeumo

RW – Amad – 5/10 – no end product as usual. The Ivorian is always willing, but his ability doesn’t justify the number of starts he gets.

ST – Bryan Mbeumo – 6/10 – switched to the left flank by Carrick in the second half and it nearly worked. He got in on goal and it was pure bad luck that his shot rebounded off both posts.

LW – Matheus Cunha – 9/10 – the Brazilian was undoubtedly the standout performer. He won the penalty and took both his goals with aplomb.

One mark has to be taken off his rating because of the sending off. His first booking was down to him getting carried away with his celebrations, but the second was a stupid late tackle.

Substitutes

Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans – 7/10 – the Belgian added some much-needed composure in the middle of the park with his passing.

Lisandro Martinez – 6/10 – the defender was much more solid than the player he replaced – Ayden Heaven.

Shea Lacey – 7/10 – got himself the assist for Cunha’s winner. Surely he has to start ahead of Amad?

Mason Mount – N/A – came on too late to make any real impression, but made one clearance.

Matthijs de Ligt – N/A – the Dutchman made one important headed clearance after replacing Maguire late on.
