Michael Carrick is facing enormous pressure at Manchester United following a disastrous start to the season, with his future becoming one of the biggest talking points at Old Trafford.
It represents an extraordinary collapse after the 45-year-old transformed United’s fortunes following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.
Carrick inherited a struggling side sitting seventh in the Premier League before guiding them to third place and securing Champions League qualification.
However, that progress has completely unravelled, with United winning just two of their opening 12 matches this season.
Last week’s humiliating 4-1 defeat against Como was followed by Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth, extending their winless run to eight matches.
Despite enjoying 63% possession and recording 17 shots, United failed to create clear opportunities against Bournemouth, highlighting their attacking problems.
Many expected Carrick to be dismissed on Monday, particularly after supporters appeared to give him an emotional farewell.
However, United have decided against an immediate dismissal, allowing him to oversee Saturday’s encounter against Chelsea.
Nevertheless, the hierarchy have explored potential replacements, with Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann emerging as leading candidates.
Amid this uncertainty, another departure from United’s coaching structure has emerged.
Manchester United recruitment coach Connor Tagoe has announced his departure after six years at the club.
Writing on LinkedIn, Tagoe confirmed that his time at United had ended.
“Big thanks to Manchester United for the last 6 years. My time has come to an end it’s been a top experience,” he wrote.
“Shared with some top people, and I’m grateful for every moment. Looking forward to the next part of my journey.”
Tagoe joined United in September 2020, combining part-time recruitment and coaching responsibilities with his own football development businesses.
He is also the founder of Vision Football Development Academy and has worked with high-profile players, including Cole Palmer and Victor Moses.
His LinkedIn employment history still lists United as a current role, although his farewell statement indicates he has departed.
There is no indication that Tagoe’s departure is connected to Carrick’s managerial situation.
