Senna Agius has set his sights on a standout debut in MotoGP, aiming to clinch the Rookie of the Year title in his first season with Tech3 in 2027. The Australian rider, who bypassed the traditional Moto3 route to spend five years mastering Moto2, is ready to make a bold leap into the premier class. Agius will join Tech3 alongside Luca Marini, who transitions from Honda, as the team owner Guenther Steiner places significant trust in the 21-year-old’s potential.

Agius is one of five rookies confirmed for the 2027 MotoGP grid, with four making the jump from Moto2: Dani Holgado (Gresini), Izan Guevara (Pramac), David Alonso (LCR Honda), and Nicolo Bulega (VR46), the latter arriving fresh off a dominant 2026 World Superbike championship. Speaking on MotoGP’s Helmets Off podcast, Agius expressed his fierce determination to outperform his fellow rookies and earn the coveted Rookie of the Year accolade.

“I want my country to be proud of me. It’s a big responsibility,” Agius said. “I just want to do my best for my country. I want to be rookie of the year. I’ve got quite a lot of goals because I feel like I’m capable 100%. I want to look back at this experience and just know that I gave everything in my first season and try to start my life in MotoGP the best way possible and adapt as soon as possible. The pressure is a privilege for this one and, yeah, I will do my best.”

Already, Agius is impressing KTM during early testing sessions for the 2027 season. His first encounter with the powerful 850cc MotoGP machinery in Austria revealed the bike’s formidable straight-line speed and intense braking capabilities, which took him by surprise. Former MotoGP rider Jack Miller has suggested that Agius’s riding style could thrive on these larger, more powerful bikes, though the rookie campaign promises to be fiercely competitive.

Nicolo Bulega remains the benchmark for the rookie class, given his extensive testing with the 850cc machine throughout the 2026 season and his record-breaking performance in World Superbike. Agius faces a formidable challenge but is determined to match, if not surpass, Bulega’s momentum as he embarks on his premier class journey with Tech3.
