Eagles waive cornerback Jakorian Bennett ahead of Giants game

The Philadelphia Eagles are making another roster change ahead of Sunday's NFC East matchup against the New York Giants. Philadelphia is waiving cornerback Jakorian Bennett, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The move ends the former Las Vegas Raiders defensive back's tenure after injuries prevented him from establishing a consistent role in the Eagles' secondary.

Bennett, 26, joined the team in a trade with the Raiders before the 2025 season, giving Philadelphia another young cornerback with NFL starter experience. However, injuries limited his opportunities with the organization, and the Eagles are now moving in another direction.

Jakorian Bennett never established a role with the Eagles

Bennett originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick by Las Vegas in the 2023 draft after playing college football at Maryland. The 5-foot-11 cornerback appeared in 29 games with the Raiders over his first two seasons, including 11 starts, before the team traded him to Philadelphia.

The Eagles hoped Bennett could provide competition and depth behind their established defensive backs, but he struggled to remain healthy.

A pectoral injury limited his availability in 2025, when he appeared in 11 games and recorded seven tackles.

Bennett then suffered a knee injury during training camp in 2026, prompting Philadelphia to place him on injured reserve with a designation to return before the regular season.

The Eagles opened his 21-day practice window Oct. 14, allowing him to return to team activities while remaining on injured reserve. He was not activated for Philadelphia's Week 7 game against Dallas or its Week 8 matchup against Washington.

His reported departure comes less than three weeks after he resumed practicing.

Eagles continue evaluating cornerback depth

Philadelphia's decision comes as the team looks for answers after a disappointing 2-6 start and six straight losses.

The Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen among their primary outside cornerbacks, while Cooper DeJean provides versatility throughout the secondary. The organization also has Kelee Ringo, Mac McWilliams, Michael Carter II, and other defensive backs available for depth and specialized roles.

Bennett's departure removes another player from the competition for playing time and could create an opportunity for a younger defensive back to earn additional practice or game-day responsibilities. The roster move also comes before Sunday's meeting with the Giants, a division matchup that Philadelphia needs to win to avoid falling further behind in the NFC East. Bennett will be subject to the waiver process, giving other NFL teams an opportunity to claim the former fourth-round pick.

For Philadelphia, the decision ends an unsuccessful attempt to develop Bennett into a dependable contributor after acquiring him from Las Vegas.
