Cole Palmer’s omission was the biggest talking point to emerge from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad selection. Tuchel named 25 players ahead of next week’s international break, with Morgan Rogers as the only Chelsea player included.
Although Tuchel clearly has an issue with Palmer withdrawing from the previous training camp, the playmaker still has plenty of time to win back his place. The same cannot be said for one of his Chelsea teammates, who might as well retire from international football.
Whether fans like it or not, Jordan Henderson is an England legend. The 36-year-old has 91 international caps and has scored three goals during his 16-year England career.
Supporters have often debated whether Henderson is good enough to play for England, but no one can question his commitment to representing his country. Thomas Tuchel took him to the World Cup this summer largely because he is such a positive influence in the dressing room.

Cole Palmer and three other Chelsea stars snubbed! What do you make of Thomas Tuchel's England squad? 🤔 Morgan Rogers does makes the squad, though.
England stars Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers have both described the central midfielder as the best person they have ever met in football. Indeed, Xabi Alonso’s decision to sign him for Chelsea speaks volumes about his impact on and off the pitch.
Having become the first England player to feature at four World Cups this summer, Henderson was left out of the squad for the September/October international break due to a broken arm. However, he has since been a key part of Alonso’s Chelsea side, scoring two stunning goals against Bournemouth.
Despite Henderson’s impressive form in a Blues shirt, he was not named in Tuchel’s latest squad. This is likely because he will be 38 when the next tournament, Euro 2028, comes around, so it makes sense for England to look to the future.
Myles Lewis-Skelly, Josh King and Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe were all called up ahead of Henderson. It is difficult to imagine the former Liverpool captain returning to the international setup without an injury crisis.
Therefore, Henderson’s England career is probably over, and Chelsea will be his only focus over the next 18 months. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Cole Palmer has his work cut out for him to get back into Tuchel’s plans before he misses many more games.
