Instant analysis of the Commanders win against the Philadelphia Eagles

The Washington Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 in their seventh game of the season in Northwest Stadium. It was their first win against the Eagles with Jayden Daniels at quarterback since Week 16 of 2024.

Washington’s first drive ended in a missed 55-yard field goal by Drew Stevens, followed by a three-and-out on its second drive. Philadelphia got on the board first with a 40-yard field goal. They also scored a touchdown after Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo fumbled. It was his first fumble since 2024. Washington would get a field goal before the end of the first quarter to make it 10-3 after 15 minutes.

The Commanders scored their first touchdown of the game on an 11-play drive that took nearly six minutes. It was their longest drive of the game by far, totaling 89 yards. It ended with an eight-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Stefon Diggs for his fifth touchdown of the season. They added a field goal to make it 13-10 going into halftime.

Both teams started the second half with punts. However, on Philadelphia’s second drive, quarterback Tanner McKee fumbled, and Charles Omenihu recovered it, giving Washington the ball back. The Commanders scored a field goal off that turnover.

In the fourth quarter, Philadelphia missed a field goal that would have made it a three-point game. Washington responded with a field goal to take a two-possession lead with 3:43 left. On the Eagles’ ensuing drive, McKee threw an interception on fourth and 25, giving the ball back to the Commanders. Running back Rachaad White totaled 37 yards on the final drive, including the game-sealing one-yard touchdown. Fellow back Austin Ekeler ran the two-point conversion to give them a 27-10 lead.

On Philadelphia’s final drive, they got the ball down to the Commanders’ 42-yard line after converting on a fourth-and-seven. However, time expired and the game ended.

Play of the Game

This did not count for any points, but it was wonderful to see quarterback Jayden Daniels give a shoutout to Terry McLaurin, who is out for the rest of the season after tearing his patellar tendon against the San Francisco 49ers. It shows how close this team is and how important McLaurin is to them, even when he is not on the field.

What’s next

This win puts the Commanders back in the NFC East playoff race, and they’ll look to build on it in their next game against the Los Angeles Rams. Los Angeles opened the season as Super Bowl favorites. But injuries and inconsistent play have hampered their season. They are currently 4-4 with losses against the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.
