“Shoulda Won The Heisman Over Mr. Indiana”: Skip Bayless Suggests Ravens Shouldn’t Have Cut Diego Pavia Amid Difficult Season

The Baltimore Ravens signed 2025 Heisman finalist Diego Pavia after he went undrafted. However, in July, the team waived him to make room for center Ethan Pocic on the 90-man roster. As the season continued, the Ravens struggled most at quarterback.

Lamar Jackson played in just five games due to injuries. The quarterback is currently undergoing thumb surgery and is expected to miss more games this year. Tyler Huntley, Jackson’s replacement, also suffered a turf toe injury last week. As a result, the Ravens relied on Joe Fagnano during Thursday’s 33-10 loss to the Jaguars. He struggled as the QB1, completing 10-of-18 passes for 60 yards, no TDs, and two INTs.

On Friday’s episode of the “Gridiron” podcast, Skip Bayless said the Ravens should have kept Diego Pavia instead of cutting him. He also said that the 2025 Heisman finalist would have played better than Fagnano.

“I promise you, Diego Pavia would have lit it up last night and at least been competitive,” Bayless said. “Because he is a playmaker. Diego Pavia was the SEC Player of the Year last year and he shoulda won the Heisman over Mr. Indiana.

“Whatever, they (the Ravens) cut him, and he’s going to wind up playing in Canada. And the odds are that Fagnano, that’s the last you’ll ever see him play.”

Diego Pavia began his collegiate career with the New Mexico Military Institute in 2020. He then committed to New Mexico State in 2022 before transferring to Vanderbilt in 2024.

Last season, Pavia led the program to its first 10-win season, finishing 10-3 (6-2 SEC). He posted 3,539 passing yards and 29 TDs. In Oct., after the Ravens released him, the quarterback announced his intention to play in the UFL next year.

Jesse Minter and the Ravens found another solution instead of calling back Diego Pavia

With both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley out, the Ravens did not recall Diego Pavia. Instead, they made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran Jacoby Brissett.

Accordingto reports, the Ravens are giving up a 2027 fourth-rounder and a 2028 seventh-rounder for Jacoby Brissett and a 2027 fifth-round pick. The teams were already finalizing a trade before Thursday’s disappointing 33-10 loss to the Jaguars.

Jacoby Brissett joined the Cardinals last year on a two-year, $12.5 million deal. In 14 games last season, he posted 3,366 passing yards and 23 TDs.
