Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly poised to leave Liverpool despite the midfielder wanting to stay at Anfield. He remains under contract until the summer of 2028 but is yet to be handed a new deal, having previously admitted that he was disappointed not to have been offered one earlier this year. He has been among Liverpool's best players so far this season, scoring four goals in 12 appearances in all competitions.
Mac Allister has made it clear that he would like to continue his career on Merseyside, but it's been reported that his wishes will be denied.
Liverpool are leaning towards selling the Argentina international in the summer of 2027 as part of a midfield rebuild, according to Sky Sports Switzerland.
It's claimed the Reds are willing to invest a "significant sum" to bring in at least one new midfielder at the end of the season.
As a result, Mac Allister is not expected to be offered a new deal and has been informed of Liverpool's plan, with a departure now thought of as a "concrete possibility".
Earlier this season, the 27-year-old admitted that he was "sad" about not being handed an extension and revealed that he turned down the opportunity to leave in the summer.
Speaking before Liverpool's opening Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, the midfielder said: "There was a chance [to leave], of course, like everybody knows.
"I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very sad. I think everyone can see that I give my 100 per cent for this football club, every single day in training.
"Of course I have good games and bad games, but I always give my best. I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts, which makes me very happy because they deserve it.
"But at the same time, it makes me sad that I didn’t get mine. Of course there is still time [to be offered a new contract]. Fans don’t need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until my last day.
"We will see what happens. There was options to leave this summer. I think right now I’m in the right club."
Mac Allister was again quizzed on his contract situation after scoring twice to help Liverpool beat Villarreal in the Champions League last week.
He said: "When I say what I said, it was more about my feelings," he said. "That's their decision and it's fine. I do my best and in the end, we'll see what happens."
