Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson admitted a “poor first half” cost his side after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Dover Athletic in the National League South.
Sak Hassan’s goal on the half-hour mark proved decisive and gave the hosts all three points in front of a crowd of 675 at Crabble Athletic Ground.
Farnham had been in good form on the road before Saturday’s defeat, winning four and drawing one of their previous five away games in the National League South.
Johnson felt his side’s display in the first half wasn’t up to the mark as Farnham suffered a first away defeat since losing at Dagenham & Redbridge in August.
“It was a poor first half – the boys just got it all wrong,” said Johnson.
“We were poor on the ball. We got it all wrong. The shape was abysmal in the first half – there were a few boys doing their own thing.
“The shape was all wrong and the goal was coming – we could have been three down at half-time.”
Johnson felt his side did improve in the second half, although ultimately it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
“I don’t think we could have got much worse than what we were in the first half,” said Johnson.
“The saving grace with how bad we were in the first half was that Dover might have taken it for granted that we were that bad.
“We turned it around in the second half and had some half-chances.
“There were a lot of good moments, but then there were overhit crosses or scuffed shots and it wasn’t to be.
“Dover had one or two chances as well, and Mike Eacott made a good save.
“It’s a tough one – it’s a difficult place to come. We've got to dust ourselves down.”
