Both Manchester United and Roma will have players on the sidelines when they meet in the Champions League. The Reds will be determined to return to winning ways when they host the Serie A club at Old Trafford in the league phase of the competition on Tuesday night.

Michael Carrick’s side were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea in the Premier League at the weekend, and are now without a win in their last nine matches across all competitions.

United have also lost their last two Champions League matches, with defeats to Como and Atletico Madrid leaving the club in 20th place in the league phase standings.

Carrick will be forced to deal with several injury concerns when selecting the United team to face Roma, with some players already ruled out of selection.

There will be no Luke Shaw for United, with Carrick confirming that the left-back remains sidelined with an injury that has kept him unavailable for the past five matches.

Carrick also confirmed there will be no Marcus Rashford in the United squad, with the England international ruled out after dealing with a thigh and hip injury.

"Luke definitely won't be around this week and fit at that point. Marcus, we'll just have to see day by day how he keeps improving," said Carrick.

Patrick Dorgu will also be unavailable for United, despite the left-back being included in the squad for the clash against Roma.

Carrick confirmed that while Dorgu has returned to training, the versatile wing-back will not feature at Old Trafford.

"His first day with the group, Pat, so great to have him back," said Carrick. "He's worked ever so hard to be back with the group, but he won't be involved tomorrow. We'll see how he progresses through the week really, but great to have him back."

United will also be without Benjamin Sesko and Manuel Ugarte, who are both unavailable with long-term injuries.

For Roma, they will also have some players unavailable for selection for the clash against United.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed that Lorenzo Pellegrini (hamstring), Paulo Dybala (calf) and Manu Kone (hamstring) will all be unavailable for Roma for the match at Old Trafford.

The Italian club will also be without goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who is still recovering from a toe injury.
