Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has admitted that he wants to return to Spain one day, despite recently signing a new contract with the club.

Before the start of the World Cup, Tottenham announced that Porro had signed a new long-term contract running until 2031.

That ended any doubt about his future, at least in the short term, regardless of how well he played at the international tournament.

Porro only had two years remaining on his contract before putting pen to paper over a new deal.

Roberto De Zerbi will undoubtedly be looking to keep him for as long as possible, as he's certainly a key player when fit.

Staying fit has been a difficulty for Porro this season, but he did recently return to action against Chelsea off the bench.

Porro has now been speaking about his long-term future, admitting he would love to return to Spain one day.

The Tottenham right-back admits it's unfair to talk about anything other than Tottenham because he's under contract, but it is a big dream of his to return to Spain.

“Obviously, I’d love to return to Spain someday. It’s my country, and I like the league. Right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I’m under contract, but obviously, I’d love to go back to Spain; it’s a big dream of mine.”

It's certainly not ideal for Spurs that Porro is discussing returning to Spain, and they'll be hoping he only means right at the end of his career.

Porro was also asked about whether he would suit Real Madrid or Barcelona better, and he didn't rule out a move to either club.

That would possibly hint that he wouldn't be against a move to the Spanish giants in the near future, as he's unlikely to sign for them at the end of his career.

It's certainly no surprise if Porro is keen on a move to a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid, especially given he's from Spain.

Tottenham need competition for Porro

As it stands, Tottenham have minimal competition for Pedro Porro in the right-back position. Archie Gray appears to be the backup option for De Zerbi at the moment, but they need to find a natural backup right-back to provide competition.

Pedro Porro vs Archie Gray Tottenham

In Tottenham's last game against Chelsea, Gray started as their right-back. Although he's doing a reasonable job, given he's playing out of position, they could still do with additional cover.

Porro will undoubtedly be the starting right-back when fit, but he has struggled to play too much this season due to injuries.
