Aussie star Tyrell Sloan ready to 'rip in' at Castleford after confirming decision to move to England

Star signing Tyrell Sloan is looking forward to “playing some good footy” with Castleford Tigers in 2027.

The speedy outside back is set to arrive in England next month and ready to light up Super League after an outstanding season down under in the NRL when he scored 10 tries in his last 11 appearances.

He has been the subject of much speculation that he would not fulfil the contract he signed with the Castleford club in the summer following the departure of Ryan Carr as his previous relationship with the coach had played a significant role in his decision to head overseas.

But the 24-year-old full-back or winger has now put that to bed by confirming how much he is looking forward to flying over.

Sloan is expected to arrive at the club alongside his St George Illawarra teammates from 2026 Damien Cook and Mat Feagai, with the trio aiming to help bring about a big improvement in performances at a club that has not reached the Super League play-offs since 2019.

“I’ve signed for the next two years, so I’m looking forward to getting over there and playing some good footy,” he said in an interview with club media.

On all the speculation about him wanting to stay in Australia, he added: “I don’t pay too much attention to it.

"I’m in my off season at the moment and just been cruising and keeping my training up.

"With the outside noise I don’t really listen to too much of it, I’ve been enjoying my time off.

“We’re not over until mid-November, so we’ve still got a bit of time to get settled in, but with the boys (Cook and Feagai) it’s been really easy and I’m sure the move will be too, having some boys with me that I’m really close with.”

Sloan added: "I can’t wait to get over there and be a Cas Tiger in 2027. I’m looking forward to meeting all the fans and getting around the OneBore Stadium.

"I’m definitely coming and I just really want to rip in and get back to playing footy.

"I want to earn the respect of the coaching staff and the boys. I know what I can bring to the table so for myself it’s just about coming over with a happy mindset, be open to whatever the conditions and really just rip in.”

Sloan’s former coach Carr, meanwhile, has been fined for a comment about referee Liam Rush deemed abusive during Castleford’s home win over Leeds Rhinos three months ago.

The RFL have fined Carr £3,000, half of it suspended until the end of the 2028 season, after his outburst was picked up on Sky Sport’s live coverage.

Carr, who was watching the game from a gantry position close to the television commentary team, was heard shouting “f****** cheat” after Tigers were denied a quick tap restart in the first half.

The RFL found the Australian, who left the Tigers the following month, in breach of operational rules D1.1(b), C2:6 and C2:10, which cover improper conduct, adherence to RFL policies and the behaviour standards expected of senior personnel.

The RFL accused Carr of “directing an abusive accusation at the referee”, but accepted the remark “wasn’t intended to be heard outside the club’s staff”.

A spokesman said: “The sanction also reflects that this was not his first breach of the operational rules during the season.”

Carr’s departure from Castleford was confirmed in August, due to what the club said were “personal reasons”.
