Robins insisted it was a foul on Ben Wilmot as Gudjohnsen rose to steer a header past Viktor Johansson in the latter stages.

"I'm proud of them,” he told The Sentinel. “We made it really hard for ourselves when we didn't need to - but they've had a right go, Blackburn.

“They have gone man for man all over the pitch and tried to put us under pressure. They try to play, there's no doubt about it. Tony's teams always try to play but also they were robust.

“They've just been beaten 4-0 away from home and that'll hurt, I know the feeling. They wanted to come back home and pick some points up and put a good performance in and, from their perspective, they will probably feel similar to me in that it was a frustrating one.

"They've had a goal disallowed but rightly so. It was a push in Wilmo's back and they've seen it and disallowed it.”

Rovers had the better chances in the first half but the opener came from Jack McGlynn’s audacious free kick.

Robins added: "Honestly, I saw the goalkeeper where he was stood and I'm thinking, 'Go on, please see it.' I saw (Jack) move to his right a little bit to open his stance up and I thought, 'Go on.'

“I am not sure how many players on the pitch could do that. Cantwell has got the ability and audacity to do it, a couple of others in our team are that good. But it's incredible. To see it, to spot it, to try it and to execute it is absolutely fantastic.”

Robins admitted his side got a “bit of luck” with the second when Yuri Ribeiro’s clearance deflected in off Moussa Baradji.

“The second goal, Justin Devenny is involved, it's a great move and hits the two defenders and goes in. It's a little bit of luck but you do make your own luck,” he added.

"Then we end up conceding a really poor goal. We let them shoot and we haven't followed in. It's come off Vik. He makes world class saves and keeps us in the game every game.

“That's really the frustration - but we managed to hold on after the goal was disallowed, like I said rightly so, and get three points.”
