Harry Kane has spent his career delivering in the biggest moments on the football pitch, but the Ballon d’Or ceremony presents an entirely different kind of pressure for the Bayern Munich striker.
Speaking at the ceremony in London, Kane admitted that he was feeling nervous as he prepared to experience one of the most memorable evenings of his career. Unlike a major final, where he can directly influence the outcome, this occasion leaves him waiting to see how the votes fall.
“I’m a little bit nervous, to be honest. It’s a bit strange because, when you’re playing in a big match or a major final, you know you can have a real impact on what happens. But this is completely different. It’s a very different situation. I’m here with my friends and family, and I know they’re nervous. I’m just trying to enjoy myself here in London. This is my hometown, so I’m really, really happy. It’s a memorable evening,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
For Kane, simply reaching this stage represents a remarkable personal milestone. The England captain has worked relentlessly throughout his career, and a Ballon d’Or victory would bethe ultimate individual recognition of everything he has accomplished.
“Winning the Ballon d’Or has always been one of my dreams. Obviously, when I was 15 or 16, I would never have expected to achieve everything I have achieved. Of course, it has also required a tremendous amount of hard work. But, as I said, regardless of the result, this is already something very special for me personally and for the teams I’ve played for. That’s what really matters,” Kane remarked.
