Brooks Koepka takes savage swipe at Bryson DeChambeau over Rory McIlroy fallout
Brooks Koepka agreed with Rory McIlroy over his actions at the Masters

While reflecting on Rory McIlroy's victory at the 2025 Masters, Brooks Koepka stood up for the World No. 2 and took a jab at Bryson DeChambeau in the process.

The two-time U.S. Open champion revealed that McIlroy didn’t speak to him the entire final round of the 2025 Masters, as the two played together in the hunt for the green jacket. McIlroy went on to earn a career grand slam by defeating Justin Rose in a playoff.

Koepka backed McIlroy's behavior, standing up for the fact that he didn’t want to speak to DeChambeau for good reason. During an appearance on Dan Rapaport's Dan on Golf show this week, the five-time major champion was questioned regarding the tense dynamics between the two golfers.

"He shouldn't have [spoken to DeChambeau]," Koepka told Rapaport. "I mean, he lives in his own world. I mean, I don't think many people want to talk to him regardless.

"I wouldn't have spoken to Rory, and I don't think he would have spoken to me and it would have been totally fine.

"I'm not a big talker. I'll talk a little bit, maybe the first couple of holes. I fully understand it. I don't feel bad. It is what it is. Some guys don't talk. It's okay. It's their job. They get to do what they want."

Given their contrasting golfing styles, personalities, and approaches to the sport, DeChambeau and McIlroy have publicly shown friction toward each other, and the relationship became blurrier when the American announced he was leaving for LIV Golf in June 2022. Their relationship has yet to be rekindled, unless it has yet to be announced publicly.

The silence between the two golfers at the Masters was on full display during a moment on Augusta National's ninth green. The awkward exchange also highlighted McIlroy's intense focus as the 37-year-old sought to complete the career grand slam after a 17-year drought to make history.

Faced with nearly identical birdie putt positions, he and DeChambeau didn’t agree on who should putt first. Neither player wanted to give up an advantage by going first, leading DeChambeau to suggest settling the deadlock by flipping a tee.

McIlroy disagreed, noting that the moment was more important than a tee flip. He ended up putting first to card birdie before the American settled for par.

"I don't know what he was expecting. We're trying to win the Masters. I'm not going to try to be his best mate out there," said McIlroy after the round.
