The Los Angeles Rams could have a major vacancy at the linebacker position as Nate Landman is in the concussion protocol, and he's their team captain and defensive signal-caller. Only missing one snap last week, if Landman is unable to play, there will be questions about how the team will address his absence.
Omar Speights is likely to take up the majority of the snaps, but the Rams need someone to play next to him, especially against the run. One candidate is veteran Eric Kendricks, who is currently on the team's practice squad.
Kendricks, in his 12th NFL season, is a candidate to be called up. Sean McVay said he could get an opportunity, diving into his thoughts on the veteran linebacker.
“He could be a possibility," McVay said of Kendricks "He's done a great job. You can see just being around him, a guy that's played a lot of good-quality football. I have tremendous respect for him from coaching against him when he's been at his different stops. He's done a nice job in the couple of weeks that he's been here. He is certainly a candidate if that was necessary.”
Kendricks, a 2019 All-Pro, has played with five teams during his career, most notably spending the first eight years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings. Last season, he played in three regular-season games for the San Francisco 49ers, recording six total tackles, before featuring in their two playoff games.
Kendricks had the crucial pass deflection that secured victory for the 49ers in their wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
