Mikel Arteta has claimed he is going to take action against all 19 rival Premier League managers after an incident that occurred during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton.
Goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães helped Arsenal sweep aside David Moyes’ side at a stormy Emirates Stadium on Saturday (October 24) as they went level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City, who had lost 2-1 away at Aston Villa earlier in the day.
Despite his side’s positive result, Arteta was quick to voice his annoyance in his post-match press conference, with the Spaniard shown a yellow card for leaving his technical area during the match.
Arteta has now been booked twice this season and will face a one-match ban should he pick up any more yellow cards.
The Arsenal boss feels hard done by, suggesting other managers often leave their technical areas without punishment. He joked that he has video evidence of other coaches leaving the technical area more than 30 times in 10 minutes without receiving a caution.
“I’m going to put sensors there [on the touchline],” Arteta joked. “There are managers that have the record in the league, 36 times in 10 minutes, leave the touchline, no yellows. So I’m clipping all of that. So I have a massive storage of images now. So if somebody comes to say, I’m not in the record yet. Somebody else has the record. So let’s see.”
Arteta was also keen to praise his players’ mentality after the routine victory.
He added: “Yes we're very happy with the victory, with the performance and with the week, because we were given a terrible schedule. Sunday afternoon, then Wednesday night in Munich, coming here really late on Thursday and having to play again in the Premier League against a really tough opponent on Saturday at 3pm. We have overcome every hurdle, on top of some injuries, and I love the mentality of the team and the quality that we've shown today.”
According to the IFAB Laws of the Game, which the Premier League follows, a manager may be warned for occasionally leaving the technical area. Clearly or persistently failing to respect its boundaries can result in a yellow card, while deliberately leaving it to show dissent towards a match official or act provocatively can result in a red card.
Arsenal return to action away at Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup fourth round on October 27 before resuming their Premier League campaign against Liverpool at Anfield on November 1.
