Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley says his side's 3-2 win at Cambridge United shows they can adapt to a new system.
Having lost their previous two games without scoring a goal, Cleverley switched from a 4-4-2 formation to 3-4-3 at the Abbey Stadium,
It proved successful as the Pilgrims inflicted a rare home loss on Cambridge, leapfrogging their opponents to go fourth in League One.
"I think we've got the players to do it," Cleverley said of the tactical change, which saw Wes Harding play as a third central defender alongside Alex Mitchell and Julio Pleguezuelo, with Jack MacKenzie and Matthew Sorinola operating out wide.
"I'll always adapt to the strengths of the group," he told BBC Radio Devon.
"We've got the centre-halves to do it. We've got profiles who fit wing-backs with Jack MacKenzie, Matty Sorinola, Joe Edwards and Alex Hartridge.
"We're not going to scrap the 4-4-2 - that's been so very, very successful for us for a long period of time - but I think that is a more than capable alternative plan B and makes us unpredictable to prepare for now.
Cleverley added: "Did we become a little bit predictable in the last two games in the 4-4-2? I think so.
"So now having a couple of players in the pocket, more bodies in the middle of the pitch, an extra body defending our box, I liked what I saw today for a lot of that.
"We'll see what Reading are and prepare for a huge game, a really important game next weekend."
