Cameron Young has been added to a star-studded field for the PNC Championship, which could stage the return of Tiger Woods as speculation swirls over his comeback.
Young will play with his father, David, in the December exhibition at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. It will be their first appearance in the tournament, and it is sure to be a special occasion for the family. David was the head professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in New York, where world No. 4 learned his craft under his father's tutelage.
The PNC has been a highlight in the calendar for many families, not least for Woods and his son, Charlie, who have participated five times and could team up again this year.
Woods has not played competitive golf in more than two years after battling injuries as well as personal and legal issues, but after recovering from back surgery and pleading no contest to reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test following a March car crash, the 50-year-old appears to be edging closer to a comeback.
The only semblance of competitive golf he has played over the past two years has been TGL matches, and while the PNC is mostly just for fun, Woods playing would represent a significant step in his comeback.
Golfweek reports that tournament organizers have reserved a spot for the Woods duo to compete with the field not yet finalized.
One man who will definitely be there is Young, who said: "Being invited to the PNC Championship for the first time is an honor, and something I’m looking forward to.
"It’s a unique event where I have the opportunity to compete alongside my father against an incredible field. It will be a really cool dynamic, and having the family around makes for a great way to end the year.”
Brooks Koepka, Nelly Korda, Lee Trevino, Bernhard Langer and Annika Sorenstam are among the stars who will also compete, with five-time major champion Koepka making his first appearance alongside his father, Bob.
“I’m really excited to have been invited to be part of the PNC Championship this year. I think it might be one of the most coveted invites in golf.
"It’s such a unique week where the competition is important, but also being out there with family and getting to share the experience with so many of the greatest players of our game. I’m looking forward to a truly special week with my dad, competing hard and making some great memories together.”
Matt Kuchar will also return as defending champion, but he will have a new partner after winning with his 18-year-old son, Cameron, last year. This time, he will play with son Carson, 17.
