The Colorado Avalanche will be without one of their defenseman for quite a while. The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly getting offers for Simon Edvinsson. Also, a bombshell report from Elliotte Friedman on Friday afternoon, one that has the ability to rock the landscape of the NHL as a whole.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — October 31.
The news of the day around the Colorado Avalanche is the latest update on veteran defenseman Josh Manson. Don’t expect to see him in the lineup anytime soon.
Also, the team called Gavin Brindley late Friday night. You have to imagine it means Logan O’Connor might miss the game, or could potentially miss it after missing practice on Friday for personal reasons. O’Connor’s absence is nothing to worry about, but I’d imagine he’s either not going to get back in time, or Brindley is insurance just in case O’Connor doesn’t return in time.
I’m rarely as shocked by hockey news as I was when Elliotte Friedman reported that Nikita Kucherov informed the Lightning that he wanted to be traded. Truly, I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
The Lightning responded with a statement of their own, saying they have no intention of trading the reigning MVP. But this has suddenly become the story to watch. Kucherov is 33 years old and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if he doesn’t sign before then. This player moving on, whether midseason or in the summer, is a leage-altering move.
I’d be curious to see how it plays out, and how many teams (like the Avs) try to galaxy brain a way to try to make it work. Make no mistake, 31 other franchises are at least going to give it a thought.
