Chelsea are reportedly considering bringing Fikayo Tomori back to Stamford Bridge. The defender joined the Blues at Under-8 level before making 27 first-team appearances under then-manager Frank Lampard.

The Englishman subsequently fell out of favour at Chelsea and joined AC Milan on loan in January 2021 before making the move permanent that summer. He has since played more than 200 times for the Italian side but is no longer in head coach Ruben Amorim’s plans.

According to Flashscore, AC Milan are prepared to let Fikayo Tomori leave in January. His contract expires at the end of the season, and Milan have no interest in offering him a new deal, so it makes financial sense for them to cash in now.

Tomori has started Milan’s last two Europa League games, including Thursday’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, but he has played just six minutes in Serie A this season. He is keen to return to the Premier League to get his career back on track.

Chelsea are among the English clubs linked with a move for Tomori, but the report states that “there is uncertainty over whether they are a realistic destination”. The Blues have only recently signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and already have plenty of centre-back options in their squad.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry City could be a more “realistic” option for Tomori. Lampard managed the defender during his loan spell at Derby County and introduced him to Premier League football after taking over as Chelsea boss in 2019.

According to Transfermarkt, Tomori is valued at just £8.4 million. It remains unclear whether Milan would let him leave for that amount, but he may not cost a fortune to prise away from the San Siro.
