Majestic Construction has been appointed by Huddersfield Giants to support redevelopment of the Flair Stadium in Dewsbury, as the rugby league club prepares for a new chapter from the start of the 2027 Super League season.
The appointment will see West Yorkshire-based Majestic play a key role in overseeing the relationship between Huddersfield Giants, as client, and principal contractor Marshall Construction, helping to co-ordinate the partnership and ensure the stadium redevelopment delivers the facilities required for Super League rugby.
The Giants are investing more than £10m in transforming the existing stadium into a modern venue capable of accommodating larger crowds and delivering an improved experience for supporters, players, hospitality guests and the media.
Redevelopment will include a comprehensive refurbishment of existing facilities, alongside construction of a new stand at the open end of the stadium.
Capacity is planned to increase from approximately 5,000 to around 8,000 spectators, including between 2,500 and 3,000 seated places, with the potential for further expansion to 12,000 in the future.
A substantial programme of work is required to bring the stadium up to the standards expected of a Super League venue.
It includes extending the playing surface, upgrading floodlighting, providing additional changing rooms and testing facilities, installing television gantries and viewing platforms, improving media and visiting-team facilities, and ensuring the venue provides a safe and welcoming environment for increased attendances.
Ralph Rimmer, executive chairman at Huddersfield Giants, said: “Lee has a huge wealth of knowledge in stadium construction, so we felt it was essential to engage his expertise to ensure we build the very best that is possible.
“Majestic will be one of our trusted advisors in our pursuit of success both on and off the field meaning the built infrastructure must be world class.”
Lee Marsden, owner and operator of Majestic Construction, added: “This is a hugely exciting project to be involved in, and one that comes with significant responsibility.
“Transforming an existing stadium into a venue fit for Super League rugby involves a complex programme of work, so having strong communication and coordination between everyone involved will be absolutely critical.
“Our role is to work closely with Huddersfield Giants and Marshall Construction to help ensure the project runs smoothly, challenges are managed effectively, and the club’s vision is delivered.
“Ultimately, it’s about creating a stadium that the Giants can be proud of and that provides a fantastic experience for supporters for years to come.”
The redevelopment will provide a significant upgrade to the facilities shared with Dewsbury Rams, who will continue to play at the Flair Stadium.
Both clubs will operate independently while benefiting from the enhanced facilities and improved matchday experience.
The appointment further strengthens Majestic Construction’s growing portfolio of sports stadium projects, following its recent involvement in a range of upgrades at Huddersfield Town’s Accu Stadium.
