With the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10, speculation has grown that the Tennessee Titans may trade running back Tony Pollard given their 1-6 record. In a recent article from ESPN, they said there is a 15 percent chance the Titans move on from Pollard, saying:
“Several teams could use a running back, and Pollard is an attractive fallback plan if the Colts stand pat on Taylor. But as one AFC exec pointed out, "I don't think [the Titans] want to take weapons away from the quarterback right now." Indeed, Cam Ward needs his supporting cast in an important second season. His three-touchdown performance Sunday vs. Cleveland shows his value in Tennessee.”
With Tennessee trying to develop quarterback Cam Ward, who is in his second season in the NFL, it seems unlikely they’d trade away their top running back, especially since they don’t appear to have a running back who could fill that void. However, Tuesday’s trade of star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Bears means Tennessee is open for business.
Pollard leads the Titans in rushing yards so far this season with 478 rushing yards, although 129 of those yards came in Tennessee’s loss to the Browns, where Pollard had three touchdowns. Behind him, their next leading rusher is Cam Ward wih 71 rushing yards. Running back Tyjae Spears, who the Titans drafted in the third round back in 2023, has just 66 rushing yards and averages 23.2 rushing yards per game in his career.
It seems more likely that Tennessee would wait to move on from Pollard in the offseason. Other teams will want a running back with Pollard’s capabilities, but the Titans need more from their ground game, which averages just 131.1 rushing yards per game and has been held under 100 yards five times this year.
