The 26-year-old full-back has had an "extended trial period" with the Millers after leaving Hull City by mutual consent in February 2026.

Williams, who spent time on loan at Town in 2023/24, is looking to revive his career, having been handed a suspended prison sentence in May 2025 after admitting dangerous driving.

He made his debut for the South Yorkshire club as a 62nd minute sub in their 3-3 home draw with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

His manager at the New York Stadium is former Town defender Alex Bruce, who spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield after signing the ex-Manchester United player.

"He deserves the contract", Bruce said. "He's worked really hard with us since pre-season, has shown a great attitude every day and an appetite and hunger just to play.

"He's had a tough few years. Not that you want to give contracts out willy-nilly, but when someone has showed the appetite, desire and hunger to come in every day and not get paid, like he has done.

"Let's not lose sight of where he's been and what kind of career he has had - I'm really pleased to give him the opportunity to give his career a kick-start."

Williams joins a Rotherham side which is one point above the relegation zone, with just two wins from 13 matches since they were relegated back to the fourth-tier last season.
