Manchester United's owners, INEOS, have decided to sack one of their managers. FC Lausanne-Sport have parted ways with boss Luka Elsner after just five months in charge, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group prepares to put the Swiss outfit up for sale.

Lausanne, in which INEOS holds a partial stake, confirmed on Tuesday that they had reached a mutual parting of ways with the 44-year-old. A statement read: "After lengthy discussions about the current sporting situation, FC Lausanne-Sport and Luka Elsner have mutually agreed to end their collaboration."

Elsner had only taken the reins on June 1, but departs with Lausanne languishing at the bottom of the Swiss Super League table. His exit comes amid reports that INEOS are looking to offload the club.

The proposed sale of Lausanne-Sport follows INEOS' shock withdrawal from sponsorship agreements with New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team and Tottenham last year, reports the Express.

Elsewhere, INEOS' flagship club Manchester United has come under increasing pressure over manager Michael Carrick following a dire run of form.

United eased some of that tension by staging a remarkable comeback from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, ending a nine-game winless run.

Fans have directed considerable fury towards both Ratcliffe and the Glazer family. During the 21st minute, supporters launched green-and-gold balloons onto the pitch in a show of protest against the club's ownership.

Roma had raced into a commanding 2-0 advantage inside 17 minutes, but United fought back in the second period. Bruno Fernandes slotted home from the spot before Matheus Cunha struck twice to complete the comeback.

Cunha received a yellow card for whipping off his shirt while celebrating the winner in front of the home crowd. A follow-up challenge on a Roma player then earned him his marching orders.

Speaking post-match, Carrick commented: "Disappointed with how it finished, but again just shows how much he cares and willing to do, and when he's in that frame of mind, he's in that mood and he plays like that, that's what we want from him.

"It was a challenging game. I think we started OK in the game, we knew it was going to be tough - they've only had one defeat all season. They're a very, very good team.

"So we talked about what we wanted to do in the game, we started OK and then the goal came from nowhere. We caused ourselves a few issues. In some ways, understandable with the run we've been on, a little bit anxious and a few nerves at times.

"This place [Old Trafford] does it. No matter what situation you're in, how tough it can seem, the supporters are desperate to get behind you and we gave them something to go on.

"We gave them other opportunities to score and it was close, and you're thinking, 'That's another chance gone by,' but we kept looking, kept pushing for answers and we found them in the end."
