Jack Miller has voiced deep frustration after the cancellation of the Phillip Island MotoGP, calling the decision a “punch in the stomach.” The race was due to be the final MotoGP event at the Victoria circuit and Miller’s farewell home grand prix before his switch to WorldSBK next season.

Pramac Yamaha had designed a special gold-and-green livery to mark the milestone, but Miller never got the chance to showcase it on Sunday.

Miller questions how the cancellation was handled

The official reason for calling off the race was not the track conditions but severely limited visibility, which left the medical helicopter unable to operate safely. Despite this, Miller expressed dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled.

“To be honest, it can't be put into words, it's a punch in the stomach,” Miller said, revealing his disappointment. “I wasn't happy with a lot of the way it went on Sunday, but we'll save that for another conversation.”

He hinted at further concerns, noting that multiple hospitals exist within Melbourne’s vicinity and that intermittent weather windows could have allowed racing to proceed. “There was also not that it had rained heavily throughout the day; there were time windows in which we could have ridden. But in the end, it is the way it is,” Miller added, underscoring his frustration at the perceived rigidity of the cancellation.

Uncertainty over the end of his MotoGP career

Speaking at the Malaysian Grand Prix later in the week, Miller’s focus remained clouded by uncertainty over the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix. Should Qatar go ahead, Malaysia will mark Miller’s fourth-to-last race in MotoGP.

If it does not, only two events, Portimao and Valencia, will remain in the career of the four-time premier class race winner. This looming end to his MotoGP journey adds a bitter edge to the missed farewell at Phillip Island.

Miller’s reaction encapsulates the raw emotion and complexity behind race cancellations, especially when they carry personal and historic weight. The unfulfilled opportunity to compete one last time on home soil in front of Australian fans, coupled with the unanswered questions about the cancellation’s timing and justification, has left a lasting impact on the rider.
