Manchester City will try to bounce back from their first defeat of the Premier League season and maintain their place atop the table when they host high-flying Brighton on Saturday (11 am ET).
Enzo Maresca tasted domestic defeat for the first time as Man City boss last weekend, courtesy of Aston Villa and Nicolas Jackson. Man City (21 points) still sit 1st in the table after eight games, but are now only ahead of defending champions Arsenal on goal difference. Erling Haaland is once again well out in front in the Golden Boot race with nine goals already, leading Liverpool’s Alexander Isak by three. City beat Brighton in a penalty shootout in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday, with both sides putting out rotated teams ahead of Saturday’s rematch right back at Etihad Stadium.
The Seagulls (16 points) are 3rd and look every bit the Champions League contenders that their current place says they are. Fabian Hurzeler’s side has scored more goals (23) than anyone in the PL (City are second, with 20), and only Arsenal (5) and Leeds (6) have conceded fewer than Brighton (7).

If there is one weakness in Brighton’s team, it is that center backs Lewis Dunk and Luka Vuskovic both struggle for pace, and there is no forward in the world who can exploit quite like Haaland. Typically, Brighton want a wide open game, but do they really want that against City? Man City 2-1 Brighton.
