Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari still have work to do before they can regularly fight for victories. Following the United States Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion opened up about his involvement in the development of next year's car and the changes he believes could help the Italian team close the gap to their rivals.

Hamilton reveals where Ferrari must improve to fight for wins in 2027

Ferrari showed encouraging signs at the United States Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc securing second place behind Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton finishing fourth. However, despite another strong points haul for the Scuderia, the Italian team were unable to prevent Mercedes from taking victory in Austin.

For Hamilton, the focus is already shifting towards 2027, with Ferrari looking to build on their progress and establish themselves as regular contenders for race wins. The seven-time world champion has been closely involved in discussions over next year's car, offering his experience and feedback as the team works to close the gap to its rivals.

The Brit believes Ferrari are moving in the right direction, but has already turned his attention towards helping the team address the weaknesses that could prevent them from regularly competing at the front next season.

The Briton explained that his involvement goes beyond his work on the track, with discussions taking place throughout the United States Grand Prix weekend and continuing over the coming races. His feedback is being passed directly to the engineers responsible for developing next year's car, particularly in areas relating to the chassis and aerodynamics.

"I feel like the team have been doing a really, really good job. I acknowledge it. I think also, in the background, I'm working on this pivotal moment in terms of steering the car in the right direction for next year," Hamilton explained.

"I'm really working on areas that we need to improve for next year's car. That's part of the discussion this weekend and the next couple of weekends. The feedback to the guys who are designing the parts for next year is just pointing out to them where we can improve on the actual chassis side and aero package."

Alongside those improvements, Hamilton identified the power unit as another crucial area in Ferrari's efforts to close the gap to their rivals. He believes that reducing the engine performance deficit could allow the team to challenge for victories more regularly.
