Chelsea are one of 16 clubs competing in the second-ever Messi Cup this week. Lionel Messi recently founded the tournament, which brings together some of the world’s best under-16 teams for a knockout competition at Inter Miami’s stadium.

The West London club were drawn in Group A alongside River Plate, Ajax and Inter Milan. They have brought not only their best under-16 players but also some of the top talents from their under-15 and under-14 squads.

Chelsea have already played two group-stage matches: against River Plate and Inter Milan. Here is how the young Blues are getting on, including an update on Thiago Silva’s son.

Chelsea played the first of their three group-stage matches against River Plate on Sunday night, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw. They faced Inter Milan in their second match on Monday and proved far too strong for the Italian side.

Chelsea won 4-0 at Chase Stadium in Miami, with goals from Ezriah Morrison, Ramarn White, Kutendah Mheuka and Eden Mahoney-Smith. Shumaira Mheuka’s younger brother, Kutendah, recently joined the Blues from Brighton’s academy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea icon Thiago Silva’s youngest son, Iago, has started both games at centre-back. The 15-year-old should not be confused with his older brother, Isago (17), who is also a defender for the Blues’ Under-18s.

Chelsea play their final group-stage match against Ajax, who have three points from two games, on Tuesday night. A victory would guarantee the Blues a place in the Copa Oro (Gold Cup), the knockout phase for the top eight teams.
