Amorim proud of AC Milan’s response after bounce-back win
Amorim proud of AC Milan’s response after bounce-back win

Ruben Amorim was full of pride after his AC Milan team responded to their European disappointment in style.

Milan were hammered 3-0 by Bournemouth on Thursday, as former Manchester United boss Amorim endured a miserable return to England.

Yet Milan got back on track with a relatively routine 2-0 win over Udinese on Sunday, as Amorim extended his unbeaten start in Serie A to eight games.

It is the third time in the last 20 top-flight seasons that Milan have gone this long without defeat, after 2020-21 and 2021-22, as goals from Christian Pulisic and Omari Hutchinson got the job done.

"I am really happy for them and really proud, because everything we talked about before the game, being competitive from the first minute, I think we did that today," Amorim told DAZN, as quoted by Football Italia.

"Even when we got tired in the second half, we controlled the game, so I am really happy with the team. Now we have to think about the next game."

Milan are fourth in Serie A, four points behind leaders Inter, whom they face on Saturday.

Amorim had to shuffle his pack due to a big injury list, with Sankhoun Diawara and Fikayo Tomori given their first league starts of the season.

And Amorim is delighted with how his team are handling the hectic fixture list.

"If you see the schedule in Europe, it's impossible," said Amorim.

"Everyone needs to be prepared. My job is not just to prepare to win the next game, that is what people want, but my job is also to help Milan in the future.

"For that, they need to play, they need to have the opportunity and feel that they are important.

"They need to work really hard, we have a lot of injuries today, and they showed they are ready to cope with the pressure of playing for this club. That's also why I am really happy and proud, because when we are on the field, it is my responsibility.

"We need time to work on several things, but we don't have time even to address the problems we had in the last game.

"We are learning in the games, with videos, in team meetings, because for three weeks we have barely had any training. I am proud of these lads, because they are paying attention to everything."

Before facing Inter, Milan host Bologna on Wednesday.
