Former Worcestershire student Freddie Slater to make F1 debut

Freddie Slater, who was previously a student at the Bromsgrove School, will make his Formula One debut for the Audi Revolut F1 team in the first Free Practice session at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

The first Free Practice session will take place on Friday (October 30).

Slater will also get behind the wheel of the R26 Audi F1 car during the first Free Practice session at the Sao Paolo GP on Friday, November 6.

Earlier this year, the 18-year-old became the first driver to be signed to the Audi Driver Development Programme, which the F1 team say is ‘supporting his progression through the junior ranks towards the pinnacle of motorsport’.

Ahead of his F1 bow, the former Bromsgrove School student commented on his childhood dreams coming true.

“Getting behind the wheel of a Formula One car at a Grand Prix weekend is a big moment for me and something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid,” Freddie said.

“I’ve learned a lot this year, and these Free Practice outings with Audi Revolut F1 Team will be another opportunity to keep gaining on-track experience.

“Being part of the Audi Driver Development Programme has already given me some incredible opportunities, and I am grateful for their trust and support.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out on track: my focus will be on doing the best job I can, helping the team with its programme and taking as many learnings as possible from both sessions.”

His former school were also keen to wish their old student luck.

Writing on social media, Bromsgrove School said: “Good luck to Old Bromsgrovian Freddie Slater, who will have his first experience of a Formula 1 car on a Grand Prix weekend in Mexico, driving for Audi in first practice.”

Slater comes off a strong rookie Formula 3 campaign, having finished runner-up in the championship with Trident Motorsport.

With eight podiums in eight consecutive weekends, three pole positions and one Feature Race win, Slater remained in the title fight until the Championship finale in Madrid in September.

He will step up to Formula 2 with Invicta Racing in 2027.
